A LITTLE ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Tom Pessemier, and I’m an award-winning Mortgage Loan Officer, licensed in numerous states across the country, residing in Richmond, VA. I’ve been helping people to buy and refinance their dream homes for more than 19 years.
Most of my business comes to me through referral, and I love that many of my clients are also repeat clients. I always enjoy helping each one of them, and though I’m strongly tied to my local community, my network extends throughout the United States. My clients are like family to me, and their support and loyalty is amazing.
I’ll be honest. I’m a firstborn, high-achiever, and am extremely customer service driven. I don’t take no for an answer when I believe there’s a solution for my clients. I’m known for getting loans through that had been through many hands before me and went nowhere. At the end of the loan process, when I see my clients’ excitement about moving into their dream home, all that hard work pays off.
I guess a lot of this work ethic comes from my early days.
At 14 years old, I begged my dad to hire me in his drive-in restaurant (the Brown Cow Drive In). He finally relented. But he didn’t go easy on me. I started out at the bottom, cleaning the post-hole in the dumpster enclosure. I’m sure he enjoyed giving me that nasty job, but I was determined to make him proud – so I did my best (even though it was not fun!) Eventually, I moved up into management. That’s where I learned about the power of a strong work ethic, problem solving, and taking on a challenge.
When I got into the mortgage industry in 2003, I applied those same principles I learned at my first job.
When the Great Recession hit in 2008, I was an independent Mortgage Broker at the time – and was one of the last men standing when the smoke cleared. I stayed in the business when many were leaving in droves. Though it was difficult, it reminded me of how important it was to continue providing the same superior service to my clients—no matter what was going on in the world.
Today, I’m thankful to have Edge Home Finance – one of the largest Mortgage Brokerages in the United States behind me. Being an Edge Home Finance Mortgage Loan Officer means I can provide more options for my clients – as well as to provide a smoother loan process and very competitive rate/fee structures. My business thrives because my clients know they can always count on me and my team to get the job done in the smoothest way possible.
Though I’ve received hundreds of referrals from past clients over the years, every time I get a call with the name and number of someone who needs my help, I still feel so grateful for the chance to make a positive difference in that person’s life. Also, to know someone trusted me enough to put their name on my service level means the world to me.
For five straight generations now, my family has owned small, medium and large businesses. While I was growing up, I was taught to look for opportunity, find resources, and solve problems in challenging situations I have encountered.
I’ve lived in a lot of places, which has widened my experiences and relationships with my clients. Originally from Washington State, I grew up in Eatonville, a small town in the foothills of Mt. Rainier. In 2014, my family and I moved to Sarasota, Florida and enjoyed living there for 6 great years. Today, we live in Richmond, Virginia, and we’re enjoying having seasons again, along with nearby mountains and rivers, historical sites and beaches.
My wife Christy and I have been married more than 25 years – and we have two beautiful daughters that we’re very proud of. Both of our daughters, Eleni & Natalia are grown – and are working hard toward their own career and life goals. In our spare time, Christy and I love to travel to new places and old places to visit friends and family, kayak, and hike in the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah Mountain National Parks. I’m just a couple years into being a backyard beekeeper – and love to work in our garden too. Christy and I are huge history buffs, so it’s always great if we can include historical landmarks in our travels! We are Orthodox Christians – and are actively involved in a couple of amazing churches here in Virginia and DC.
Doing what I do during my work week is so rewarding – and knowing I’m giving each one of my clients the best possible experience is the best feeling! I wouldn’t rather be doing anything else.
